#ChooseToChallenge – Pacific the Cryptoartist

Who is Pacific?

Pacific (as she is known) is a schoolgirl in Gibraltar who has turned her hobby into an income stream. She paints cryptoart and sells her work for cryptocurrency. Payment for her work is validation that her art is appreciated by others and gives her the opportunity to raise money for charity, feeding her need for altruism.

Her alias reflects her inner self of calm and relaxation, which her art encompasses. Initially, her art was an escape from the busy, stressful world we all lived in pre-COVID but as the pandemic slowly took a stranglehold on life, she turned more and more to her art as a coping mechanism. Having to adapt to homeschooling and being away from friends is hard, let alone during formative years.

Pacific’s art

Pacific enjoys experimenting with different techniques, mediums & textures. Gouache allows her to use different binding agents to create unique effects. A piece can take weeks to create, first from concept and then as it builds layer upon layer of distinct visual elements.

It’s a modern art world of Non-Fungible Tokens, that the dealers and art collectors are embracing. The ownership of digital art is recorded on the blockchain, meaning it can still be seen and shared online. For some, this tokenisation of art ownership represents the best certificate of authenticity to date.

Pacific was inspired by the works of Violet Jones, Trevor Jones, Jose Delbo and Pascal Boyart. All of these artists have made significant contributions to the modernisation and digitisation of art. She aspires to be recognised alongside them but recognises that she is only at the start of her career and there is a lot to learn. Pacific has her youth on her side, and over the next few years, we hope to follow her journey.
