#ChooseToChallenge – Denise Mathews
Who is Denise Mathews?
Denise Matthews is a gem of female-led inspiration for all young women. She’s a businesswoman and a mum and manages to juggle it all!
Denise was awarded Gibraltar Chronicle’s “Best Young Communicator of the Year” in 1995 so it should be no surprise that in 1999, Denise successfully fought for the right to vote in the European Elections as a British Citizen and resident of Gibraltar.
After she started her business One Media & Events in 2016 to help promote business start ups in Gibraltar and technology focused enterprise world-wide, she has gone from strength to strength.
She championed local businesses in Gibraltar in 2017 by successfully founding the Startup Grind Gibraltar Chapter, regularly running networking and informative events.
Denise is really forward thinking and established herself as a Revolut Ambassador in Gibraltar in 2018 to promote a new way of banking, long before people had really grasped how much FinTech and tech startups would benefit local business. She was soon recognised as “Rookie of the Year” by StartUp Grind in the same year.
Philanthropy is her passion so she makes time to help raise funds, participate and use her platform to raise awareness to support various causes including sustainable development, diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities.
In 2019 Denise became recognised in blockchain related technologies following the Gibraltar DLT Regulations that had been introduced the previous year by featuring a number of the Gibraltar established regulated startups on her platform.
In 2020 at the StartUp Grind Global Director’s Retreat in San Francisco she collected four awards being the first female to pick up Director of the Year.
Most recently, during the COVID lockdown restrictions Denise has had to get to grips with new ways to deliver the events such as Online Panel Discussions. She will be hosting “Women Leading a Brave New Way of Working” later in March to discuss changes that have been made in the workplace in the face of issues during the pandemic.
